The Third Era, or The Era of Turmoil as it is commonly referred to, was a time of political and social revolution within Celandine. It was this feudal time in Celandine's history that The Great War took place. After the death of the Elven King Aeleaus, Celandine was thrown into social upheaval, forming new ideas about the hierarchy of the races. The political leaders of each race decided that the rule of the Elves should come to an end, since they had monopolized Celandinian politics since the founding of The Republic of Celandine.
The Elves were very much opposed to this idea and ceded control of the Human state of Erandor, prefering to retreat back into their home state of The Silverwood Forests. The Dwarves also contributed to the strife by closing down forges that had supplied weapons for the Celandinian armies for centuries, leaving each race to their own ingenuity.
An official declaration of war was issued by the humans on April 29th of the 7th Century 72nd Year. The War began directly a year afterward on November 26th of the 7th Century 73rd Year. After several bloody battles, the races all found their resources exhausted, and the war ended without solution. Since then, Celandine was plunged back into a fundamental dark age of skirmishes between the races.
Some battles were even fought for religious reasons, as the Humans considered The Elves to be heretics due to the polytheistic belief system. One of these battles was The Battle of Deep Wood, led by The General Tempest. This general was defeated by The Queen's Handmaidens, a covert group of female warriors that existed only to protect the Elvish Queen Dalisia.
