Mayor Hines Says Treasurer Was "Not the Right Fit at the City of Rogers"

Jerry Hudlow's office sits empty.

His things are stacked and packed outside the door.

The Rogers treasurer and chief financial officer was fired Monday.

"He was not the right fit at the city of Rogers," said Mayor Greg Hines.

Hines said several things led to Hudlow's termination.

"I released a document yesterday that contained a written version of some of the incidents which led to my conclusion that he was no longer compatible with the direction of the city."

That personnel action report says the city treasurer tried to affect the outcome of a city council decision by "lobbying the finance committee to take a position that he personally supported."

It also claims Hudlow disciplined his employees with public embarrassment, intimidation and disrespect.

"I gave him numerous opportunities to sort of correct that behavior and saw no results," Hines said.

But Hudlow told KNWA by phone that he has nothing to hide and will answer to any of the accusations against him.

He said his record is impeccable, and when he took the office of city treasurer ten years ago, he was "the best thing since sliced bread."

Hudlow's also accused of secretly bringing a gun into the office each day.

He said that's true, but he said he has a concealed carry license and believes he is within his legal rights to do so.

However, Rogers City Prosecutor Chris Griffin said it is against the law to bring a weapon into any state office or government meeting place, like city hall.

According to Hudlow, his termination is the result of a personality conflict and nothing more.
Hines said the document he released speaks for itself, and he's moving forward.

"I will immediately begin a sort of quiet search on my own to find the person with the right skill sets for that position, and then someone clearly that I can trust, that the city council and the community can trust."

According to Hines, Hudlow's termination will not affect the city's day to day operations.
