The Department of Mathematics, The American University of Beirut

The Department of Mathematics at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for positions in Mathematics at the Assistant Professor level. Employment will begin September 1, 2013.

Only applicants holding a Ph.D. in Mathematics and showing a strong commitment to teaching and research will be considered.

Anticipated vacancies are in any of the following areas: (1) analysis, (2) partial differential equations and differential geometry, (3) numerical analysis and computing. Strong candidates in other areas of mathematics and statistics may be considered.

Appointments are normally for an initial period of four years.

There are 16 full time professorial rank faculty in mathematics and about 120 students in the major. The Department offers programs leading to the Bachelor and Master degrees. The Center for Advanced Mathematical Sciences at AUB, within walking distance from the department, also houses research activity in mathematics.

The Department offers a large service program in mathematics for the entire University, as for example in Agriculture, Business, Economics, Engineering, the Natural Sciences, and the newly introduced graduate program in Computational Science. AUB is a teaching-centered research university. Its mission is to enhance education, primarily for the people of the Middle East, and to participate in the advancement of knowledge. The beautiful campus is located on a hill in Beirut overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, with a pleasant weather year-round.
